SYNOPSIS

ACT I

It’s a boring, rainy day at home. Through a window, Kate and Anna watch other kids playing in the rain (Rainy Day). Anna is scared to go out and make new friends, and Kate is scared of the thunder. When Anna starts reading out loud from a book titled "Candy Country" they start arguing, and the book is ripped in half.

In a dark interrogation room, the Chocolate Witch and her henchmen intimidate the Gingerbread Man into revealing where the Candy Crown is kept.

Kate and Anna find themselves in a Candy Marketplace, where the friendly vendors and shoppers welcome them to Candy Country (Candy Country).

The song ends at Animal Cracker Farm, where Jolly Rancher introduces Kate and Anna to his farm animals. He is shocked to read in a newspaper about the disappearance of the Candy Crown. Kate and Anna volunteer to help, and set out to the Candy Capital to talk to the King and Queen.

They find themselves at Sugar Rush Elementary School where Smarties, Nerds, and Dum-Dum are discussing mathematics – or at least trying to. The Sour Patch Kids are bullying Mary Jane, who Kate and Anna invite to join them on their journey (along with her dog, Licorice).

Jack laments exchanging his cowtails for magic jelly beans when he is scared by an approaching giant, bumping into Goldilocks as he runs off. Goldilocks hides behind Kate, Anna, and Mary Jane when the Three Gummy Bears burst in looking for her. They explain to the group why they are angry with Goldilocks (We Three Bears). Tom and Anna encourage them to listen to Goldilocks’ side of the story, and hearing her plea they decide to adopt her (Two Sides to Every Story).

As they continue on their way, Kate, Anna, Mary Jane, and Licorice encounter the cackling Chocolate Witch, who has the crown! Rather than chase after they decide to keep going, to talk to the King and Queen about what to do.

Swedish Fish float down the Lemonade River as the group enters and meets the Lollipop Man, who can ferry them across (Lollipop Man). They’re scared to cross the fast-moving waters, but encourages them to face their fears and they cross the river safely (Stuck). As they part ways, the Life Savers attempt to scoop Baby Ruth out of the river but all fall in.

Meanwhile, the Chocolate Witch and her henchmen celebrate the success of their mission, and her future as Queen of Candy Country (Finally Queen).

ACT II

Kate, Anna, Mary Jane, and Licorice arrive at the Candy Capital (Candy Country- Reprise) and are quickly ushered in to meet King Candy Corn, Queen Caramel, and Princess Sweetheart (All Hail). Anna convinces Kate and Mary Jane that together they can get the crown back, and with the royal blessing they set out with M&M for the Chocolate Witch’s castle.

In the dark forest M&M get scared and run off, leaving the group alone. Suddenly Pixie Stix appears, and shines a guiding light to help them through the forest (True Friends).

In the Chocolate Witch’s castle the group is taken prisoner, and Mary Jane is surprised to find the Sour Patch Kids working for her. They think it’s cool of her to stand up to the Witch, so they give her some hot chocolate when she’s cold. Watching over them, Pixie Stix encourages the group to not give up. Anna realizes that the ropes tying them up are made of twizzlers and Licorice quickly eats through them. They try to reason with the Chocolate Witch, but when she threatens to destroy Licorice Mary Jane throws the hot chocolate at the her, which melts her... and the crown. Celebrating the vanquishing of the Chocolate Witch but dejected over the loss of the crown, the group returns to the Candy Capital.

Waiting for their return, Princess Sweetheart is nervous that she isn’t ready to be a queen, but her parents comfort her and tell her she is (King Or A Queen). When the group arrives, the royal family is impressed by their defeat of the Chocolate Witch.

A national celebration is thrown to thank Kate, Anna, Mary Jane, and Licorice, but it is soon interrupted by a deformed Chocolate Witch. She surprises everyone by giving Princess Sweetheart the crown, apologizing and telling the crowd that when she melted and reformed, her heart did too. She is renamed “Lady Chocolate”, and Sweetheart is finally crowned Queen. Kate and Anna say goodbye as M&M give them a magical book to take them home (Together- Short).

Back at home, Kate and Anna decide to face their fears and head go out into the rain to make new friends. They reflect on all the things they learned in Candy Country (Together).
